WireGuard for webOS
This project provides a simple webOS app that can install, configure, start, stop and monitor a WireGuard VPN tunnel on LG webOS.
- Sideload / dev mode
- Stable
- Low brick risk

Changes
- Fix buttons and other UI controls not responding on older webOS engines by replacing
const/letdeclarations with ES5-compatiblevardeclarations. Thanks @mastrogippo for PR #8! - Preserve the correct completion translation key.
- Includes the Homebrew service descriptor fix from 1.0.7.
Compatibility and testing
The 1.0.8-rc.1 build was confirmed working by @BassXX and @mastrogippo on webOS 3.9.3. Reported checks include installation, configuration upload, VPN start/stop, Homebrew root status and autostart. Frontend controls were also checked on the maintainer's Chromium 79 TV.
This stable release ships the exact same IPK as 1.0.8-rc.1, with the same SHA256. The official Homebrew catalog minimum remains webOS 5.0; the older-device reports do not establish compatibility with every model.
Updating
Install over the existing app to preserve configuration. The application ID is unchanged. If you already installed 1.0.8-rc.1, you already have this package (the TV reports version 1.0.8), so no reinstall is needed.
SHA256: 8b800799358b5058bb6035891bc52d1e22e4a7ee8933d4f152c84042eb8fbf8c

Getting started
From the project's README ("Installation"):
- Download or build the IPK
Release package:
com.github.cfernande1470.wireguard1.0.7all.ipk
To package manually:
make package
Packaging requires ares-package from either LG's @webos-tools/cli or webOSBrew's ares-cli-rs. Set ARESPACKAGE=/path/to/ares-package when it is not available on PATH. The package is forced to architecture all because the bundled ARMv7 binaries run on both 32-bit and 64-bit TVs.
Output:
dist/com.github.cfernande1470.wireguard1.0.7all.ipk
- Install using Homebrew Channel
Copy or upload the IPK to your TV and install it from Homebrew Channel.
- Open the app
After launching the app, press:
Install / update
This prepares persistent state under:
/var/lib/webosbrew/wireguard
The packaged binaries and scripts stay inside the application directory. The state directory only contains the configuration, logs, runtime files, and symlinks to the packaged payload, so updates take effect without duplicating the binaries. The app does not prepare this state automatically; this is intentional.
Risk and recovery
- Brick risk
- Low
- Requires opening the device
- No
