A redesigned TV screen, two more advertising components, Home order on The Frame 2024, and community fixes for the remote, the TV tuner and Node 4.4.
New and fixed
- TV screen redesign: Vetro's screen on the TV shows its state more clearly, with a diagnostics panel and the app icon. While checking, it says what it is doing, and every check has a time limit, so the screen no longer hangs on "Checking". The web dashboard is unchanged.
- Advertising list: two more components (#44):
com.samsung.tv.iacrandcom.samsung.tv.screen-analysis-dbmgrare now listed as advertising. Nothing is turned off by itself: each one is still disabled by hand. - Select the TV tuner directly (#31, by @tomcraft):
KEY_TVandXF86DiscretSourceTVcan be used by remapping rules, so "back to live TV" selects the tuner. Whether the key exists depends on the firmware. - The remote is found again after a restart (#32, by @tomcraft): when Linux renumbers its inputs, Vetro picks the remote interface that has keys; if it cannot decide, interception stays off instead of guessing.
- The service runs on Node 4.4, app-only (#33, by @SalustLab): for TVs whose web service runs on Node.js 4.4.3. Tested by the author on one QN55Q80TAGXZD (2020, Tizen 5.5). No root on that platform, so the features that need root are not available. Not tried on a Tizen 4 TV, and not tried by us on any Tizen 5.5 TV.
- Home order on The Frame 2024 (Tizen 8.0) (#45; issue #41, reported by @Nyar-cloud): the
EOFCOBAterminator is now accepted and kept. Covered by the test suite; not tried on a TV. The second problem in #41 (csfscoming back after pressing Home) is still open. - Dashboard: app ID shown when app names repeat (#52, by @domenix).
Documentation
- Installation guide: where to find the DUID,
tizen installinstead ofsdb install, how to check the install (#39, by @bertrandom). - Links to the Tizen Studio installer (#47, by @bertrandom).
- Open Vetro once after installing, so start at boot works (#49; issue #25, reported by @JamesMills818).
- Troubleshooting for "TV platform adapter unavailable" (#42).
Compatibility (community reports)
- Q80R QN65Q80RAFXZA (2019, Tizen 5.0): works with local changes, not with the stock package (#35, @torresdrew).
- S90D QA65S90DAULXL (2024, Tizen 9) on 0.3.2 (#36, @Inderdeep29).
- The Frame QN75LS03BAFXZA (2022) on 0.3.2 (#39, @bertrandom).
What was tested
- Test suite: all 64 suites pass.
- On a TV: a Samsung Q80A only (the new TV screen and #44).
- Not tested by us on any other model or Tizen version.
Upgrading
- No breaking changes. Install 0.3.5 the same way you installed 0.3.2 (your own signed build, or Apps2Samsung), then open the Vetro app once: start at boot needs it.
- The port is still 8099 unless you build with another one.
Thanks
@tomcraft, @SalustLab, @domenix and @bertrandom for code and docs; @Nyar-cloud, @JamesMills818, @torresdrew and @Inderdeep29 for reports and tests.

Getting started
From the project's README ("Install"):
Vetro needs root on the TV. There are three ways to install it:
- Apps2Samsung (the fastest). Vetro is in the catalog of Apps2Samsung, the one-click installer for Samsung TVs by PatrickSt1991. It handles the certificate, the signing and the install for you. Thanks, Patrick!
- With a coding agent. Let an AI coding agent with a terminal (for example Codex or Gemini CLI) follow the guide for you. Not Claude: its cybersecurity safeguards stop it on the root steps.
- Manual. Tizen Studio, your own Samsung certificate, build, sign and install, step by step.
Whichever way you choose, finish with the same two steps: open Vetro once on the TV, then set Host PC IP to 127.0.0.1 in Developer Mode and restart the TV. Full guide for all three ways →
The root comes from Chris Ritsen's Samsung TV root research and works through TV-local SDB, so no computer needs to stay connected. Startup can take up to 90 seconds. This is experimental software: privileged changes can disrupt TV features, so read what a switch does before turning it on.
The dashboard uses plain HTTP and has no login. Anyone on your network can open it, so keep the TV on a trusted LAN and never expose it to the Internet. Integration details · Validation record
