Magic Mapper 1.1.0
No breaking changes. Your existing config keeps working, and IR input is off unless you turn it on. See Upgrading in the README for the upgrade commands.
New in 1.1.0
toggle_bluetooth: turns the TV's bluetooth on or off, for example to stop bluetooth headphones from repeatedly trying to connect. See toggle_bluetooth. Thanks to @harrismck for #42.- IR input: when bluetooth is off, the Magic Remote falls back to IR. Set
"ir_input_enabled": trueso mapped buttons keep working over IR, including turning bluetooth back on from the remote. See IR input. - New settings:
ir_input_enabled(defaultfalse): also read the TV's IR receiver.ir_exclusive_mode(defaulttrue): mapped buttons pressed over IR don't also do their normal action.ir_input_device_name(default"LGE RCU"): the IR receiver's device name, if your TV names it differently.
- Output device errors: if exclusive mode can't find an output device, Magic Mapper now logs an error and keeps running without exclusive mode, instead of exiting until
start_magic_mappergives up.
Tested on a C9 (webOS 4) and a C2 (webOS 7).

Getting started
From the project's README ("Installation / Setup"):
- Root your TV using https://rootmy.tv/ and install the Home Brew app
- Note the above link is likely to fail on the newest firmware.
- Instead, follow this guide (C2 and probably C1 have issues, see next bullet):https://gist.github.com/throwaway96/e811b0f7cc2a705a5a476a8dfa45e09f
- The above instructions work fine for a C9, but a C2 requires additional steps for SSH to work, outlined here
- Once your TV is rooted, run the following to download the Magic Mapper scripts (or just vi the files and copy and paste, or just use scp on the C9/CX, but the C2 doesn't support scp).
cd /home/root wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/andrewfraley/magicmapper/v1.1.0/magicmapper.py wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/andrewfraley/magicmapper/v1.1.0/magicmapperconfig.json cd /var/lib/webosbrew/init.d wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/andrewfraley/magicmapper/v1.1.0/startmagicmapper chmod +x /var/lib/webosbrew/init.d/startmagicmapper
- Edit magicmapperconfig.json as needed
- Lastly, reboot the TV (execute the reboot command over SSH, or open the homebrew app, click the cog, click the reboot link.)
Risk and recovery
- Brick risk
- Low
- Requires opening the device
