LG Input Mapper
Remap, disable or repurpose the buttons on your LG Magic Remote, on a rooted webOS TV, using nothing but the remote:

Install
Needs a rooted TV with Homebrew Channel (root status OK).
Homebrew Channel: Settings → Add repository, enter
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/fivefold3/webos-homebrew-repo/main/repo.json,
then install LG Input Mapper from the list. Updates show up there too.
Manually over SSH: download com.lginputmapper.app_1.1.0_all.ipk below, then
ssh root@<tv-ip> 'cat > /tmp/com.lginputmapper.app_1.1.0_all.ipk' < com.lginputmapper.app_1.1.0_all.ipk
ssh root@<tv-ip> "luna-send -n 1 luna://com.webos.appInstallService/dev/install '{\"id\":\"com.ares.defaultName\",\"ipkUrl\":\"/tmp/com.lginputmapper.app_1.1.0_all.ipk\",\"subscribe\":true}' </dev/null"
The app appears in the launcher a few seconds later.
Either way, open LG Input Mapper once afterwards: it sets itself up and starts at boot from then on.
What's new in 1.1.0
Updated implementation & remap wake from sleep action (1.1.0)
Buttons that turn the TV on from standby now follow your mappings too. The app does this through the TV's own settings and puts them back as soon as they are no longer needed.
Buttons that turn the TV on
- Streaming buttons that wake the TV from standby (Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, LG Channels, ...) now follow their mappings: "Launch an app" and "Switch to an input" open it straight away, "Act as another button" and "Run a command" happen once the TV is on, and "Do nothing" keeps the TV off.
- New "Allow from standby" option per mapping, on by default. Turned off, the button no longer turns the TV on but keeps its mapping while the TV is on.
- Buttons that cannot turn the TV on are marked "From standby: not supported".
- The TV's own behaviour for these buttons comes back when a mapping is removed, the remapper is stopped or the app is uninstalled. Needs webOS 6 (2021) or newer.
Mappings
- Loops of "Act as another button" mappings (A acts as B, B acts as A) are shown in red and do nothing until one of them is deleted or changed.
- More streaming buttons are shown by name.
App
- Added launch screen with the app logo instead of default grey one.
- The "Start at boot" setting is gone: the remapper always starts at boot.
Fixes
- After a reboot the app could fail to start with "not permitted to send to com.lginputmapper.app.service". The service's permissions now match how webOS names the app, and the app repairs them itself if needed.
- Uninstalling now removes everything the app stored, including your mappings and its boot script, leaving no trace of the app.
Before you start
- How hard is it?
- MediumInstall an app on your computer and follow its steps.
- What you need
- Comfort with the command line
- Another hack installed first
- Can it break my device?
- Very unlikely to break anything.
- Can I undo it?
- Yes. You can go back to the official software.

Getting started
From the project's README ("Install"):
Homebrew Channel
Homebrew Channel > Settings > Add repository, and enter:
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/fivefold3/webos-homebrew-repo/main/repo.json
Manual install
Grab the .ipk from the releases page and install it with webOS Dev Manager or ares-install. If you used LG Input Hook before, your mappings are imported on first launch.
Risk and recovery
- Brick risk
- Low
- Reversible
- Yes
- Requires opening the device
- No
From the project's README ("Buttons that turn the TV on"):
Streaming buttons such as Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+ or LG Channels also turn the TV on from standby. Your mapping decides what happens then:
Mapped to Pressed while the TV is in standby Launch an app, switch to an input The TV turns on straight into that app or input Do nothing Nothing: the TV stays off Act as another button, run a command The TV turns on like the power button, and the button or command follows once it is on (a couple of seconds) These mappings also have an Allow from standby option, on by default. Turn it off and the button no longer turns the TV on, while it keeps doing its mapping when the TV is on.
Needs webOS 6 (2021) or newer; older TVs keep LG's behaviour for these buttons. Other buttons (Alexa, the colour buttons, …) cannot turn the TV on, and neither can streaming buttons LG does not use in your country: the app marks their mappings From standby: not supported.
Nothing is left behind: removing a mapping or stopping the remapper gives these buttons back their original behaviour, and uninstalling the app does that and also deletes everything it stored, your mappings included. If a firmware update removes root, LG's own servers restore the buttons the first time the TV starts up online.
