Launch Home 0.0.122
Hide the TV Settings tile
Settings → Apps has a new TV Settings tile on the home row switch, beside the All apps one. Turn it off if you'd rather use the Settings button on the remote (#9). It's on by default, so nothing changes unless you switch it off.
Home button and boot through webOS's own scheduler
Boot on TV start and Launch on Home button now also arm a persistent webOS activity each (#10), thanks to spereyra-dev's research. One opens Launch Home when the TV finishes booting, the other when LG's Home comes up. webOS keeps them across reboots and runs them itself, so they work even where the Homebrew Channel startup hooks don't run, and react faster than the watcher. Switching a setting off removes its activity. The existing hooks stay for waking from standby and for webOS 5.
The activities only open Launch Home; they never close LG's Home, so LG's Home still works if Launch Home is ever removed. Still, switch both settings off before uninstalling Launch Home. Without Homebrew Channel, you can arm them by hand as root: see Without Homebrew Channel.
Fixes
- Switching Launch on Home button off now also stops the Home key readers added in 0.0.121 and the watcher's background
luna-send, which used to keep running. - On TVs where Home is an app, a Home press could open Launch Home twice; the key watcher now stands aside there.
Install
Rooted webOS + Homebrew Channel. Install the attached IPK, or:
ares-install org.webosbrew.lounge.launcher_0.0.122_all.ipk
This release was updated on 23 October with the webOS activities and fixes above. If you installed 0.0.122 before that, install it again.

Getting started
From the project's README ("Install"):
Requires a rooted LG TV with Homebrew Channel and SSH enabled.
npm install ./install2tvfrommacos.sh
Set your TV's IP if needed:
TVIP=192.168.0.79 ./install2tvfrommacos.sh
Or build manually:
npm run pack ares-install --device webos dist/.ipk
npm run pack uses the project-local @webos-tools/cli and rejects files dated 1970-01-01. That epoch stamp is a @webosose/ares-cli + Node.js 22+ bug; some TVs (webOS 5) refuse to install those packages. Do not package with @webosose/ares-cli on modern Node.
Risk and recovery
- Brick risk
- Low
- Requires opening the device
- No
From the project's README ("Backup & restore"):
Settings → Tools → Backup & restore (needs root through Homebrew Channel):
- Back up settings saves everything you set in Launch Home to /home/root/.config/launch-home/settings-backup.json on the TV, and to lounge/launch-home-settings.json on a plugged-in USB drive. Voice keys and the SuperGrok sign-in aren't included; they stay in /home/root/.config/launch-home-voice.
- Restore settings lists every backup it finds: yours, the USB drive's, and the copies Launch Home keeps by itself in /home/root/.config/launch-home/auto/ (one from before your last restore, and the settings from before each of the last three updates). Pick one and press Restore this backup.
Launch Home is young and its settings still change between versions, so a backup made by one version can be restored by another:
- Each backup file records the Launch Home version that wrote it and its settings layout version.
- Older backup: its settings are updated by the same steps Launch Home uses when you update it.
- Newer backup: settings this version doesn't have are kept but not used.
- A setting that doesn't fit (for example, a number where this version expects text) keeps your current value. After a restore, the status line lists every setting that was skipped or not used.
- The voice assistant's on/off setting belongs to each TV and isn't restored.
- To undo a restore, restore the copy marked before your last restore. To go back to an older Launch Home, restore the copy marked before updating that it wrote.
