DIGITONE II ONLY — USE ENTIRELY AT YOUR OWN RISK. Installing modified firmware may void your manufacturer warranty. It can render your instrument unusable; recovery is not guaranteed. Do not install the generated image on any other machine. Read the full disclaimer.
DigiRust is a macOS patcher for Digitone II official OS 1.12 → DigiRust. The instrument's internal OS version remains 1.12.
The author's focus is IDM, rhythmic noise / power noise, and electroacoustic music. These tools favor unusual sounds, textures and structured experimentation. Conventional groovebox workflows, hip-hop beats and mainstream beatmaking are outside the design scope.
Downloads
- DigiRust-1.2.0-macOS.zip: universal Apple Silicon/Intel patcher and user documentation.
- DigiRust-1.2.0-source.zip: patcher source, pinned recipe/additions, artwork, notices and documentation.
- SHA256SUMS.txt: checksums for both archives.
No complete official or modified firmware is distributed. Supply your own exact official Digitone II OS 1.12 .syx. DigiRust creates a verified copy locally and never connects to or updates an instrument.
Features
Patch, kit, pattern and phrase generation; Abstract, IDM, Rhythmic Noise, Melodic and guarded Free sound paths; pattern Density and rhythmic Brutality; sound Brutality; varied pattern structures/tempos; compressor generation; Control All macros; drone latch and Perform Kit restoration. Path availability varies by generator—read docs/FEATURES.md.
DigiRust adds independent Kit Generator Brutality for IDM and Rhythmic Noise, using contrasting bars, DATA editing/cancel and repeated YES generation. Both start at 35% and reset on reboot.
Developer hardware report
The developer reports that DigiRust modified firmware has been thoroughly tested on a real Elektron Digitone II and is currently running on that instrument without any observed issues.
This records the developer's experience on that instrument. It is a factual report, not encouragement to install, an endorsement, a guarantee of safety or compatibility, or a prediction of results on another instrument. The warranty and use-at-your-own-risk warnings remain applicable.
Verification and limits
The curated source was rebuilt and produced the exact pinned DigiRust output. Local checks include 18 patcher integration tests, native GUI and extracted-archive reconstruction, and firmware host/CPU/emulated boot and panel tests. This does not establish physical sound quality, timing or deployment safety for DigiRust.
The app is ad-hoc signed, not notarized or Developer ID signed. Local runtime testing was on Apple Silicon, macOS 27.0 (build 26A428). macOS 11 is only the minimum compilation target, not a tested version. Intel Macs and other macOS versions are unverified. Installation is a separate decision. See the README, validation guide and retained notices for compatibility, recovery limits and attribution.

- How hard is it?
- EasyCopy a file or use a web page. No extra software.
- What you need
- A computer
- Can it break my device?
- Could leave your device unusable. It may void your warranty.
- Can I undo it?
- The project doesn't say. Assume you can't.
Did it work for you?

No reports yet for v1.2.0.
One-tap reports from owners. Bricked reports are checked before they count.
Compatibility
Devices: Elektron Digitone II.
No compatibility information yet.
Getting started
From the project's README ("Create your firmware copy"):
- Obtain the official Digitone II OS 1.12 from Elektron and extract its download archive. Use your own official .syx file; an already modified image is rejected.
- Open the browser patcher in a current browser over HTTPS, with Web Crypto and Web Workers enabled.
- Choose or drop the official firmware. DigiRust checks that it is the exact supported file.
- Read the disclaimer, acknowledge the warning and choose Create firmware copy. You can cancel while it runs.
- When verification succeeds, choose Download verified DigiRust firmware. The filename is DigitoneIIOS1.12DigiRust.syx.
Your original file is unchanged. Browser saving follows your browser's download behavior. No Python, Homebrew or compiler is required. The site's patch resources need a network connection; your firmware itself stays in browser memory. The demo thumbnail loads from YouTube; its embedded player loads only when you press play.
The macOS app remains available. Choose/drop the same official file, select Create patched firmware… and a new local destination, then wait for verification. The macOS app never overwrites existing files and requires a filesystem with hard-link support, such as APFS/HFS+. …
