AV Overlay
This overlay shows the receiver's volume and mute state, the sound program, the audio format actually reaching the amp (Dolby Atmos, DTS, PCM and so on), and the video format and HDR in use, without leaving the TV.
- Sideload / dev mode
- Stable

AV Overlay 2.5.3 is the current release and the only one with downloads attached. It rolls up everything in the 2.5 series: install it over any earlier version (settings are kept).
What's Changed
2.5.3
- Audio (TV) row: the TV's raw replies are logged once per failing step, not once in total, so the HDMI fallback's reply on older webOS (the C1 on webOS 6) shows up at
/logs. The HDMI audio line is read case-insensitively ("9ch" as well as "9Ch"), and MAT (how an Apple TV sends Atmos) shows as "Dolby MAT". Still unconfirmed on a C1. (#20)
2.5.2
- A muted receiver stays muted when you switch between Live TV and an HDMI input. The TV re-syncs its own (unmuted) state over eARC at each switch; the watcher now mutes the receiver again if that happens within 4 s of an input change. Confirmed on a TV. (#18)
- Release workflow: releases are titled "AV Overlay <tag>" consistently. (#17)
2.5.1
- The pinned bar no longer flickers on an HDMI input: its restore is held while a TV menu (quick menu, settings, input picker) or the home screen is up, and backs off if the bar keeps vanishing. (#16)
- Audio (TV) row: when the TV's audio call gives no
pipelineId(older webOS), the HDMI service is asked by port alone; raw replies are logged once if nothing usable comes back. (#16) /setupcan be driven with the TV remote: section headers are focusable, the arrow keys move between controls and OK toggles checkboxes. (#16)
2.5.0
- Audio (TV) row (optional, off by default): the audio the TV itself sees on its input, with or without a receiver. (#10)
- Choose and order the info bar rows on
/statusand/setup(on/off switch and drag handle per row). (#10) - TV-only mode: with no receiver address the bar shows only what the TV, Plex and Jellyfin know; the installers skip the receiver on Enter. (#10)
/logspage: live view, filter and download, with tokens and keys masked. (#11)- Show on TV is remembered across a watcher or TV restart, and the last Apple TV app from Home Assistant survives a watcher restart. (#11)
- Row descriptions (i icon per row), Magic Remote friendly overlay, pinned bar restored after switching between Live TV and apps. (#11)
/status.jsonsends a CORS header for the AV Overlay Settings app; review fixes to shell quoting, luna subscription restarts and failed-install detection. (#13)- Single consolidated repository: Android app, release candidates and docs now live here; v2.5 screenshots in the README. (#9, #13, #14)

Getting started
From the project's README ("Deployment options"):
There are two ways to run the watcher process. The TV apps (the visual overlay and the settings launcher) are installed the same way in both cases.
Option A — on the TV (default)
The watcher runs directly on the rooted TV as a background service. Nothing extra is needed.
Requirements: Node.js 18+, ssh/scp, and a POSIX shell (macOS, Linux, or Git Bash/WSL on Windows). Your computer also needs an SSH key the TV accepts (see docs/INSTALL.md section 4).
See docs/INSTALL.md for the full guide, from rooting the TV to Home Assistant.
git clone https://github.com/SammySco/webos-av-overlay cd webos-av-overlay TVHOST=root@TVIP sh scripts/install.sh
On Windows, the supported route is the release archive: unpack it and double-click Install-AVOverlay.cmd (no Git Bash or Node needed, only the built-in OpenSSH Client), or run scripts\install.ps1; it asks the same questions. Building from source in Git Bash can fail if Node is installed under a folder with a space in its name, such as C:\Program Files (npx is not found); use the archive or WSL.
Option B — in Docker (on a home server or Raspberry Pi)
The watcher runs in a Docker container on a separate Linux host on the same LAN. The TV apps are still installed on the TV; only the background process moves off the TV. This keeps the TV free of the Node.js runtime and makes updates easier.
Requirements: a Linux host on the same LAN, Docker Engine, and an SSH key that can reach the TV. …
