Getting started

From the project's README ("πŸš€ Get started"):

πŸ‘€ Preview it on your computer

python3 -m http.server 8766 --bind 127.0.0.1 --directory prototype

Open and play: arrows move, Enter opens, Esc goes back. T changes the time of day, W the weather, S the season, D runs a day time-lapse, 0 shows the frame rate and H hides the help bar.

For Ambient Wallpaper, open : Enter hides or shows the clock, and a double-click fills the screen. It makes a calm second screen, too.

πŸ“Ί Put it on your TV

You need an LG webOS TV with Developer Mode turned on (LG's Developer Mode app, signed in with a free LG developer account, and Key Server on), plus a computer on the same network with Node.js 22+ and Python 3.

  1. One-time setup: install LG's command-line tools inside the project and register your TV. The steps are at the top of scripts/tv-preview.sh.
  2. Try it as an app: scripts/tv-preview.sh installs Ambient Home as a normal Developer Mode app. The Home button still opens LG Home.
  3. Bring in your apps: run node scripts/tv-sync-apps.mjs , accept the prompt on the TV, then run step 2 again.
  4. Make it yours (optional): put personal settings in prototype/config.local.js. Git ignores this file, so your coordinates and app ids never leave your computer: HOMECONFIG.weather.latitude = 48.86; // your coordinates, for live weather HOMECONFIG.weather.longitude = 2.35; HOMECONFIG.apps.iptv.appId = 'your.iptv.app.id'; …
